Now with the development of the fishing industry, the number of baits is growing exponentially. Unfortunately, gone are the days when every novice angler made the first, awkward throws with spinning, and at the end of the line was a simple spinning troller. A lure that through generations does not leave the fishing boxes of many spinning anglers, including me. I have been catching spinning blades for more than a dozen years and very successfully, thus with all the variety of baits in my arsenal blades are still in demand when fishing on small rivers.

The superiority of rotating blades

Spinners, as it is customary to call them in the circle of fishermen, have, like any type of bait, their undeniable advantages.

1. Simplicity of animation. Spinning blades are simple to operate, just need to throw in the right place bait, and then evenly twist the handle of the coil. The petal of the bling “winds up”, that is, begins to spin, and thus the bling begins to attract predators. Diversify the wiring can only speed winding the cord or fast pulls, so this bait is so good in the early days of training in spinning fishing.

2. The spinning troller is a universal bait. In the sense that the fisherman is not always sure what fish ate once again the troller. Spinner catches almost any predator, and with proper experience and not only predators, because peaceful fish, such as elets, roach, roach and redfin willingly bite on ultralight blisenki.

3. High rate of catching. Under this phrase I mean that when fishing on rotating blades catching speed is very high, because, as I mentioned earlier, the animation of the blades is only in the winding of the cord, thus the bling for a short period of time will pass a greater distance than a wobbler, which is aimed at jerk wiring. It is not necessary to go far for an example. Since I was repeatedly overfished by a partner who fished on blades, while I fanatically relied on the proven wobblers, and while I “gurgled” popper, a friend for the third time threw a spinning rod, thereby more quickly overfished promising areas of the river, and eventually overfished. But you need to understand that in this situation, rotating blades win when the predator is actively feeding, and the type of bait is not so important in this case.

4. Budget bait. Spinning blades, compared to other baits, are more affordable, and are found on the counter of absolutely any fishing store, so for a beginner spinning, unwilling to spend money on Japanese wobblers, spinning blades – the best choice even in our days.

The design of the blades

Image 2 : Spinning Blades for spinning fishing. Spinning trolling line

The bling has a rather primitive, similar to the majority of manufacturers of this type of bait structure. Metal rod, on which the petal rotates, below this petal, as a rule, is attached to the load, depending on the size of the trolley. The load is made of any shape, the most common – from several metal balls or a solid sinker. Ends all this simple design hook. Usually “spinners” are equipped with tees, less often single hook. Fastened to the fishing line with a loop, which is made of the previously mentioned rod. The petal is connected either directly to the rod through a hole in the petal itself, or through a special bracket, which in turn moves freely along the axis of the metal rod. The petal of the troller is the main component, because its quality and stability of rotation depends on whether the troller will catch fish.

Petal shape

The variety of petals in rotating blades is huge, but, in my subjective opinion, you can distinguish only two basic forms – narrow, longitudinal, or, as it is also called, “willow leaf”, as well as oval, among anglers is called “comet”. These names came from the long-known French company Mepps, which became famous all over the world for catching vertushki. Other bizarre forms of petals only resemble something of these two forms, but when wiring rotate at almost the same angle and are applicable in the same fishing conditions. For example, a troll with a petal type “willow leaf” is originally designed for fishing in the current, because this form of petal when rotating takes the smallest angle in relation to the axis of the bait, hence has less resistance to the flow of water. Cardinally different trollers with a petal of the “comet” type. Here the oval petal in the conductor already takes the largest angle, thereby the bling is stable rotating in standing water, while on the stream has a strong resistance. Therefore, when fishing on the river, where a fast roll is replaced by a quiet shoulder, it is desirable to have a pair of spinners, which petals have a similar shape.

Blade size

Most spinning blades are categorized by size, usually starting at #00 and ending at #5. Some companies, in particular Pontoon 21, have gone further and produce intermediate sizes, for example, 1.5 and 2.5, which is very convenient when it is difficult to determine the optimal size of the troller when catching a particular predator. Accordingly, the larger the number, the larger and heavier the bait, while the size of the spinner choose depending on what fish we plan to catch.

I will start, perhaps, with the most common catching on rotating blades. Of course, with catching pike, because everyone once started his way spinning with catching the spotted mistress of rivers and lakes. Pike, compared to other predatory fish, is not so fastidious to the size of the blades, the main thing here – the quality itself, but the optimal size when fishing on small rivers will be the second or third number spinners. Interesting rotating blades and the fact that you can catch them in almost all areas of the reservoir, except only heavily overgrown places, especially when you catch pike, which in turn can stick to any place on the river. When choosing colors I adhere to a simple rule – in sunny weather I use darker shades, such as Mepps Black Fury, in the dark time of day light and bright, such as Pontoon21 Indi-Rah in coloring T21-FT1. Popular, and at the same time proven blades for pike: Mepps Aglia Long, Myran Wipp Rainbow, Mepps Comet. But the most pleasant impressions when catching pike on rotating blades left the company Blue Fox, thanks to only one very successful model Vibrax Shad. A little secret about the wiring – if the fishing takes place in a shallow area of water, for example, the depth of only half a meter, then during the wiring the tip of the spinning rod should be raised so that the bling went in the subsurface layer. From the blades on the smooth water should remain a trace, the so-called “whiskers”, which is similar when wiring on the subsurface krenk. Such ripples on the surface of the water from the rotation of the trolley has helped me many times when catching pike in shallow rivers. Now I catch pike on blades not with the same regularity as before, because wobblers and soft baits, it must be admitted, outplay blades in many aspects, for example, when catching passive and cautious pike. Although you have to give credit to spinning blades, because thanks to fishing on spinning rods I learned the basics of fishing with spinning tackle.

Kharius

This is my favorite predator, which I like to catch on spinning trollers. I will say more, spinners are the best baits for catching grayling. Since for all the time of catching grayling on spinning blades turned out to be the most sought-after lures, as they easily out-catch the famous Japanese minnows. When fishing on small rivers, small spinners up to #2 in size are best suited. A win-win and even universal choice will be blades of the first number, this is the size of the blades prevails in my box of baits for grayling. For cautious and not big fish it is better to give preference to #0, in rare cases #00. The grayling prefers natural colors with elements of red, black and yellow. The fly on the tee is welcomed by the predator of flowing rivers. My favorite blades for catching grayling are unequivocally Pontoon 21. In this case, you can safely distinguish three proven models, namely Synchrony Synchrony, Trait and Ball Concept. These blades perfectly catch grayling for about 8 years, and I have not yet met any really strong competitors to these spinners. Although it is worth mentioning the company Myran, because the blades of this company show very good results, and the model Myran Mira I can safely recommend.

Perch and yazi

Combined these two predators not accidentally, because based on my personal experience, perch and yazi bite on similar blades. These are, as a rule, small-sized spinners, starting from the number zero and ending with a double. When catching these seemingly different predators, the Mepps Aglia TW first-numbered blades proved themselves well. “Striped” on small rivers with rotating blades catch right after the rolls, where the backs are formed and on deeper parts of the river with a calm current. Yazi on the river keeps similar places that and perch, so it often happened to catch first perch, and then see the bite of yazi, with a very slow wiring blades almost on the verge of disruption, perfectly provokes predators to attack.

The topic of rotating blades is quite extensive, so in this article I have touched on only a small part of all the information, with the desire to arouse interest in rotating blades for beginners spinning.

I remember the first time I tried out those new spinning blades. Total game-changer! The way they cut through the water was smooth as butter. Caught way more fish that day. Definitely worth investing in a good set for any angler looking to up their game!

I totally get that! The first time I used a new rod, it felt like an extension of my arm. I caught so many fish, and it just made the whole day more enjoyable. Upgrading gear really can change everything on the water!
