Bull trout and chub are probably the most widespread representatives of “white predators”. Their habitat is quite wide, and you can meet them from a stream, which you can quite easily walk across, to huge rivers several hundred meters wide. Their third brother – yazi – is also present in our area, but clearly in smaller quantities, and his catches, except for purposeful catching in spring, are mostly of a more casual and rare nature. But otherwise, all this trio, thanks to their fighting qualities and wide distribution, has long been the number one target for more than one generation of spinning.
Previously, their catching mainly took place in the coastal format or, if the depth allows, you can go to the roll and catch right out of the water. Now with the availability of a huge selection of inflatable PVC boats on the market is quite common and another type of fishing – fishing rafting. It is especially prey it happens in the second half of summer and fall, when the fish is not all day adhering to the rolls and “smeared” throughout the water area.
On such fishing more often than not, it is more convenient for me to apply wobblers krenk class or sheads. Since both these and others are best suited for spot fishing in a limited space due to the instant “turn on” the game and are characterized by better flight characteristics than small minnows. Statistics on their use has accumulated enough, so I decided to combine it in the form of this article for those who are just starting to make the first steps in this direction.
When compiling this top, I purposefully left the awarding of places, because fishing with rafting – it is quite a dynamic type of fishing. The bait that has just “shot”, literally around the next corner can “fall silent” because of failure to fall under new conditions. Accordingly, here are only those lures that have shown excellent results on different parts of the river and are stable for more than one season.
TsuYoki Chef 38F
The first wobbler that comes to mind after the question “What catches better: originals or copy?”. – is the TsuYoki Chef 38F. In my case, it really works a little better due to a more calm and amplitude game. Holds almost any stream and catches steadily, starting from spring and until late fall. About the number of colors can not even mention – there are so many that even stop at something specific is very difficult. Its length is 38 (mm.). This is the most universal size for both small and large rivers. Weight is equal to 4.2 (g.) that in conjunction with the system of long-range throwing (SDZ) gives us excellent flight characteristics and accuracy. Horizon diving it, as well as the progenitor, is approximately equal to half a meter, and in this regard, Chef 38F is suitable for covering most of the classic places.
In addition to the “white” love this bait and other predators, so in the presence of “green salmon” with teeth, it is best to use a small steel leash or at least a shock leader made of fluorocarbon.
Jackall Chubby MR
And here is the leader for catching places with a depth a little more became a novelty of last year – crank Jackall Chubby MR. This lure continues the glorious traditions of “chubby building” and is associated with rafts and with chub. Of course, stud and the rest of the toothy fraternity also do not mind to try it “on the tooth”, but their catches are less systematic and do not happen so often. The length and body proportions of the Chubby MR remained exactly the same (38 mm.), only the blade has changed and the weight has slightly increased (4.2 (g.) vs. 4 (g.) for the SR version). The lack of SR, as well as the presence of a rather large blade, does not prevent it from flying perfectly and accurately. Fittings are installed, apparently, immediately for our market, and the reliability of tees does not cause any questions at all. The current of this bait holds perfectly, deepens a little more than a meter at even wiring has a high-frequency game with a small amplitude. Best of all, this wobbler works for me or at the beginning of the season, when the spring water has gone not to the end, or in the fall, when the fish is not so active at the surface. Methods of animation, which I use with it, are standard variants for alloys in the form of the usual even wiring upstream or downstream with elements of acceleration or holds to feed the bait most naturally. Jackall Chubby MR is a relative newcomer in my box, but confidently and quite deservedly took one of the leading positions there.
TsuYoki AGENT 36SS
The next lure is again a representative of the range of TsuYoki company and has, as it seems to me, the most characterizing name – AGENT 36SS. This crankbait is used for fishing places with a depth of a little less than a meter or for cases when the most active game of the bait is required. With its modest and compact size the weight of the lure is really decent – 5 grams. Thanks to this we are not afraid of even a fairly strong wind – the agent flies all the same where we sent it. Thanks to the same factor works this crankbait absolutely on any stream, regardless of its strength. Otherwise, there is the same huge choice of colors, excellent quality of coloring and installed fittings.
Game at AGENT 36SS is very high-frequency, the amplitude of oscillations is very small, while it is not very stubborn, which gives us the opportunity to work with him and not large test rods. In addition to the basic wiring with this bait I like to also a variant, when before the start of winding you can give him a little dive and, as they say, start to tease the “beast” right in its den. Especially often such a maneuver likes chub, standing on the bottom behind some shelter, but the stud likes the usual “even” with periodic accelerations.
Asakura Super Hornet SR-F 4,2
The next in our line, unfortunately, already quite rare, but nevertheless still as well working bait called Asakura Super Hornet SR-F 4,2.
This wobbler is interesting because it is the complete opposite of the Agent mentioned above. The difference is that with a very similar wiring horizon, his oscillations are average in frequency and amplitude. This gives us a completely different pattern of play. I use it in cases where the fish is almost inactive and interest it can only very “tired” prey, which is not necessary to chase.
This lure differs in its body shape – here we see a hybrid of a crankbait and a shad. Inside there is a system of long-range throwing, realized with the help of steel balls and a special channel with a shelf, which fixes them. Therefore, despite the small weight (3.6 gr.) Hornet flies very well. The Super Hornet holds the current well, but there are still cases when it is carried upwards on very strong jets. In addition to “white predators” this bait also works well on perch, which closer to the fall often stands on the same points as chub.
Zipbaits Khamsin Jr 50 SR
Well, and completes my mini-rating lure, which, probably, and does not need a special introduction – it is Zipbaits Khamsin Jr 50 SR. This lure, despite its well-deserved fame as a miner of small pike and perch, is no less catchable and not so traditional predators. Especially well he begins to work in the fall, when with the gradual cooling of the water before wintering chub and stud completely go to feed on the fry, which its game and appearance Khamsin and resembles.
The main places where this bait is used are small backwaters or lulls, which are formed behind various bank ledges or roots of coastal trees. As a rule, in the fall in such places begins to accumulate malek, so next to hold and almost all the predator. Wiring all the same even. But, unlike in summer, at a slower pace, literally on the verge of stopping the game, if possible closer to the edge of the stream. Its only disadvantage is the price, but, as a rule, since the water level in the fall before prolonged rains is not very high, then all possible places of hooks are easily read and they can be avoided.
Otherwise, of course, this set can not completely cover all the conditions of fishing and quite often have to resort to other lures, but in most places it will allow at least not to stay without fish or in a very extreme case – without a nibble.

Rafting is a blast! My go-to lures are always bright colors and some good ol’ rubber worms. Last summer, I caught a huge trout using a chartreuse spinner. It was a game changer! Gotta love the thrill of reeling in a big one while bouncing down the rapids!
Man, let me tell you, those bright-colored lures are game-changers on the river! I remember one trip where I switched to a neon green one, and boom! Caught the biggest trout of my life! Trust me, if you want to up your fishing game, give those lures a shot!
