“Cockroaches” for golavl. Part one

“Roachaning” – with this capacious word with the easy submission of Konstantin Kuzmin we now habitually call a special method of spinning fishing His Majesty Golavl on a particular type of bait.

Accordingly, all baits, koi suitable for this fishing, generalized called among golavlyatniki “cockroaches”. This is a variety of fly-cicado-beetle-shaped designs from a combination of different kinds of plastics and silicone, having any elastic parts in the form of tendrils, legs and sometimes wings.

What is the secret of “cockroaches”?

Image 1 :

The catchability of “cockroaches” is due to a successful combination of useful properties in them

The catchability of “cockroaches” is due to a successful combination of useful properties in them useful in the catching of shovelnose predators, such as positive buoyancy and maximum similarity in behavior on the surface with fallen on the water insects. But it is important to understand that the main thing in this type of lures is not external realism and maximum similarity to any living prototype of insects. No, much more important is the game on the surface of the water, which will be able to show the bait, thanks to its proper equipment with all its antennae, legs and wings. It is on their movement will depend on the catchability of the cockroach, and not at all on how much it looks like a real May beetle or gadfly.

With the choice of “cockroaches” in our country things are not everywhere and not always simple. And although the efforts of enthusiasts, such as the author of these lines, our sellers are gradually penetrating the need to include in their assortment of such baits, not every fishing shop can buy what you need. In addition, most of these devices are produced under Japanese brands, and it is always expensive. Despite the apparent simplicity of these baits, their price is close to that of Japanese wobblers. And the high prices quite reasonably discourage buyers from buying incomprehensible bugs, especially when they are not very well understood. That’s why I will try here to help a little help beginners spinning on the way to tarakaning, orienting them among the many different floating crakozabra. And in the first part of the article will talk about lures roach, either fully or partially made of silicone.

Successful models Tiemco

Let’s start the review of silicone “cockroaches” with the simplest designs, not equipped with hooks. These are, as a rule, the most budgetary in price lures of this type. But this in no way means that they are in any way inferior to other models. Simply their device only implies independent equipping with hooks at your discretion. On some packages with silicone “cockroaches” there is information with recommendations for their equipment, but often in scribbled hieroglyphics. It is good if there are drawings, which shows what type and size of hook and from which side it is better to stick in this bug.

I would call one of the leaders in the production of such baits Japanese company Tiemco. From simple roach-like baits of this brand I can distinguish three models at once. The first of them is Shaky Bug. This is a medium-sized “cockroach”, which is unlikely to be identified with any living prototype even a master entomologist, because this bukazoid is equipped with different legs, similar to the legs of insects and frogs. If you equip this bass bait according to the recommendations of the company, clinging single hook behind the head, our golovly will quickly snatch these cockroaches, in addition, the realization of nibbles will be low. That is, not everything that is recommended by the manufacturer, can be suitable for catching different fish. Therefore, lures created for hunting largemouth bass, in the hunt for our golavl should be equipped differently. But here, too, not everything is simple. You need to either make a floating jig head yourself from a hook such as Owner S-59 and a foam ball with a diameter of 9-10mm, or buy on the well-known Chinese trading site of such things ready-made. Planted on such a rigging Shaky Bug reliably catches shovelnymi on wiring light short frequent jerks, attracting predators by the work of its different legs on the surface of the water.

The next two killer “roaches” from Tiemco are Panic Cicada and Panic Cicada Tiny. Their difference from all the other similar ones is that these bugs are equipped not with legs and antennae, but with some wings located across the body. The baits differ in size, but both are well equipped and work with different hooks, including offset and Owner S-59, and they are friendly with floating jig heads. During light measured jerks their paws-wings perfectly attract shovelers with their movements, and the special material from which the lures are made, works better than any edible rubber, it is these “cockroaches” golovly literally chew and swallow, and not immediately try to spit out after a bite.

“Cockroaches” Reins, Jackall.

Next – “cockroaches” Reins Hanesector and Reins Insecter. The Reins company is well known to our jig fishing fans, and its range of baits has a lot of interesting things, including a couple of “cockroaches” made of floating silicone. The first one looks more like a small frog, but the second one is a real cockroach. Both are equipped with a sharp single rod like the same Owner S-59. Both baits are quite working, catch chub steadily, it is better to use them mixed with each other, you never know which one will be more interesting today.

Jackall also has “cockroaches”, but they are a little more complex in design. One larger model – IKEZEMI. The second is smaller – IKE-CHU. Structurally, these bugs for catching bass have excellent buoyancy not due to the properties of silicone, but due to the capsule built into their bodies of something solid, like foam. Silicone shell at these “cockroaches” much stronger than many, so pull them off the hook to the chub is not so easy, although these baits are attached to the hook only for the heads, which is still not the most successful solution for catching chub.

Simple and inexpensive Basic Gear and Kosadaka

Very simple and inexpensive “cockroaches” from the company Basic Gear. This unpretentious compact design weighing only 2g, when equipped with a thin light single hook does not fly very far when thrown, so these lures are most convenient to catch by rafting, sending them sailing along the bareback stands. When equipping “cockroaches” Basic Gear with a floating jig head, the situation with throwing becomes better.

Perhaps, one of the most budget “roach” is Kosadaka May Bug. It is such an intricate silicone bug that consists of two parts – a body with legs and antennae and wings hinged to it. Equip can be single hooks and floating jig heads. Very well flies on the throwing and catches lobastye, attracting them with legs and wings, rubbing on the water during jerks.

Equipped with jig heads

Now from simple to more complex. We will talk about “cockroaches” a little more interesting designs. These are models that are already equipped with the same floating jig-heads that were mentioned above, but not just any, and proprietary developments of companies. To begin with probably worth with “cockroaches” from the brand Imakatsu, they are in fact pioneers in our market of such baits. The presence of each model of a special jig-head made of floating plastic, equipped with protection from snags and moreover silicone whiskers, which makes it itself quite a bearable bait. But each jig head comes with a set of three silicone bugs. The most massive of them is the Abe Yanma roach. The bait is equipped with two types of legs, working very effectively on the wiring, depicting either an insect or a small frog. A very effective option when hunting for trophy big chub.

“Cockroach” a little smaller – Fujin Spider. To its massive jig head with protection from snags and silicone tendrils are also included three silicone baits with thin legs, which are not so noticeably rubbing on the water, as the Abe Yanma, but nevertheless this roach on its catchability I have always been one of the leaders.

The most compact of Imakatsu “roach” is Baby Spider. It is something like a younger brother Fujin Spider, but differs not only in smaller size, but also the device of legs, which on the wiring perfectly attract golavly together with the whiskers of its floating jig head.

These are the models that are already equipped with the same floating jig-heads

Floating jig heads from Imakatsu are good in that they can be successfully used in combination with “cockroaches” of other manufacturers. But the “cockroaches” from the company O.S.P. device of their floating jig heads is such that they are suitable only for cockroaches of their own design. In addition to being equipped with protective tendrils against snags, the head part of them is able to work as a small popper, thanks to a recess in the frontal part. This is good for catching bass, but when hunting for our golavl option popper better try not to use, otherwise you can easily lose a not cheap “cockroach” after a pike attack. These “cockroaches” from O.S.P. are called Orikanemushi and Orikanemushi Daddy, the second larger is completed with two models instead of three in a blister. High-quality, catchable lures, they would have a little thicker hooks, it would be quite good.

Such a list of fourteen silicone “cockroaches”, and this is not all, but if you find at least half, then a couple of seasons of exciting experiments exactly enough impressions. And then you will want new ones, with other lures. “Tarakanning” is an interesting fishing, when all the outputs of fish, attacks and nibbles in plain sight. It is exciting and spectacular, to be bored on such fishing is no time. Good luck to you chub fishing in the coming season!

Man, I remember this one time I saw a cockroach racing across my kitchen floor. It was like a little ninja, just zipping around! Gotta admit, it was impressive how quickly it scurried away. Cockroaches may be creepy, but they sure know how to move!
