Worms are fed by any fish that fills the water bodies of Russia. This is a kind of delicacy that has excellent nutrition and not badly energizes the fish organism. Even pike in hungry times with great pleasure quenches hunger with worms. Therefore, infrequent catches spotted predator on fishing rods while catching the same crucian carp say that someone just wanted an easy prey, which will not have to chase for a long time, burning the forces. It is noteworthy that the pike is considered unsuited to feeding from the bottom because of the structure of the mouth, but this does not prevent it from hunting these defenseless carriers of calories without hindrance.
When planning a fishing trip, you have to choose the best bait to be combined with a particular fish, depending on its species. Fish feed on the worm that most often appears in its habitat and is familiar to it. That is why not every worm can be “cool”.
The most common worms in the fishing world are dung, earthworms, crawlers and podlistniki. Let’s dwell on each of them in more detail.
Dung worms
Dung worms are very popular in year-round fishing for crucian carp and ruff. In summer and fall time show good results and on the rivers. This worm is distinguished by a brick-red color with a tail part covered with dim yellow rings. The body is not thick, up to 12 centimeters long. Few people know that the scientific name of the dungworm translates from Latin as “stinky”. That is why this bright and odorous bait is perceived in a special way by aquatic inhabitants. These worms can be found most often in the stinking dung, and less often in straw and leaves. That is why the worm is called dung worm. Depending on the humidity of the habitat, the rigidity of the worms may differ, so the survivability on the hook will also be different. Probably the most popular worm in catching a huge range of fish species with different gear.
Earthworms
Earthworms, judging even by their name, fill the upper layers of the earth. Often these worms are found during land work, but you can also find them in the coastal zone. This species is distinguished by its off-white color and slightly larger size compared to dung worms. After rains, these worms can often be seen on the surface. This bait works especially well on rivers in the spring and on night fishing. In standing water bodies is often interested in such a delicacy perky tench, which is probably the most welcome guest of float fisherman.
Worms
The largest worms, so you can expect trophy-sized fish on them. Sprawlers grow up to 30 cm, while their width reaches a centimeter. In the area of the head of the worm there is a thickening of dark red coloring with a purple cast. The rear part is light-colored, slightly expanded and flattened. On the back, a stripe is visible. Also this worm is covered with mucus. Dwells in burrows, they can be found by characteristic micro-holmocks of recycled earth. Worms are collected at night, as at this time of day they partially crawl out of their burrows and linger on the ground sprinkled with dew. Harvesting these worms is quite exciting. They are found in the countryside or on garden paths. To catch the bait, you need to move as quietly as possible on the ground so as not to scare the worm away. They are also afraid of white light, so a red lens on a flashlight will be more relevant. The worm always lies on the ground, but the tail extended part from the mink is not removed. In times of danger, it instantly hides from the hunter’s eyes. It is important to quietly sneak up and grab it with fingers closer to the mink and in moments of relaxation quietly and slowly remove it so as not to tear it. Catfish, sterlet, chub, chub, bream, carp and tench are caught on this nocturnal giant.
A more universal bait serves as a small vyspozhok. This species is brighter in color and half the size of its brethren. It lives in the fresh foliage, straw and manure. Such bait will be appreciated by most river dwellers. To catch trophy fish, put it on a bunch of several pieces.
Podlistnik
Podlistnik differs little from the dung worm, but at the same time it does not smell any more. By the name it is already clear that it is easier to find it under wet leaves, sawdust, boards or stones. This worm is loved by most of our fish, so it is very convenient to have such individuals in the box. The only disadvantage of this species is their softness, because of which it does not stay on the hook for a long time.
California worm
In this considerable list of worms quite recently got more California species. He seized the counters of stores, as it is easily bred in dacha conditions. California worm can be confused with our dung worm. But it is many times stiffer, which is good for the fisherman, but not always like the fish. The worm stays on the hook for a very long time, although there are often cases when fish favored local, less combative and soft inhabitants.
Conclusion
What worms are better for fishing? There is no unambiguous answer to this question, but there are a number of observations that will help to determine and catch the desired trophy, some of them have already been described above.
However, the worm has been and will be in first place in versatility and all-season. Worms are not difficult to obtain, easy to store and effective to use. At the same time, the use of worms does not end on the landing, it can be cut into bait, which will increase many times the effectiveness of fishing. To harder worms, you can apply folk trickery. In the box where the worms are, before fishing you need to squeeze a clove of garlic and mix the contents. Worms, burned by the juice, become sharper and release the blood. Thanks to this, their odor becomes much brighter and mobility on the hook is retained for a long time. Sometimes such a move becomes decisive in catching carp fish.
Taste preferences of the inhabitants of a particular reservoir is rational to check in practice. However, you can briefly list the main preferences.
1. Dung worm: popular on ruff, crucian carp, river fish.
2. Earthworm: it is used in the spring, when it enters the water with melting snow, naturally, on night fishing. A favorite delicacy of the tench
3. Sprawlers: river fish, trophy fishing
4. Podlistniki: universal. Minus – too soft, so it comes off the hook easily
5. California worm: quite universal. Minus – its hardness does not always like the fish.
