Los mejores carretes para spinning

At the very beginning of his spinning journey almost every beginner asks the same question: “Which reel is better?”. And in general, what defines this “better” reel? About twelve years ago I also asked myself this question. During this time I have passed an incredible number of inertia-free reels and multipliers, but we will talk about “mults” next time.

Let’s deal exactly with “non-inertial reels”. I, for example, started with “Cobra”, which friction was located at the back. I remember that after the tenth fishing trip something crunched in the reel and it became unusable. Frankly speaking, this state of affairs upset me a lot. You bet, because I spent as much as two hundred and fifty rubles! And it just broke. Then, when I got some basics, I was “ripe” to buy a more expensive reel. Then I read the magazine Fishing with us and on one of the pages was an advertisement for Daiwa reels. It said that they are reliable and durable reels with excellent quality.

The first experience of use

I remember how on my birthday my relatives gave me money and I bought a Daiwa Regal 5IA worth 2200. Naturally, together with the reel I bought a good spinning reel. And my happiness was not limited. The stroke of the “meat grinder” was excellent, and compared to the “Cobra” so and simply amazing. You know what it’s like? For example, we used to drive an old six and then we immediately moved to a BMW, which is exactly how I felt at the time. But then a year went by, and the line arm spring broke. I disassembled the node of interest to me, made the same spring from steel wire, and Regal served me faithfully for two more years. During this time I did not “rape” this reel as much as I could: I used it as a winch, of course, the main pair became unusable. After Regal I bought Shimano Katana, which cost two hundred rubles more expensive. And it turned out that this reel is even better than the previous one and the stroke is more “velvety”. Katana served me in equal conditions for four years! Again, it “died” because of my recklessness. After I fished with these models, the world of inertia-free reels divided in two for me – these are Daiwa and Shimano reels.

Some spinning anglers think that Daiwa is better, others put their finger down and literally shake with happiness when they hear Shimano. I will say with full confidence that at the moment there are no reels on the market that can compete with Daiwa and Shimano. These are the two true pillars of reel building that dictate fashion to the rest of the world. And, perhaps, the main question is: what makes these “meat grinders” better than others? I will tell you about it now.

Quality of workmanship

The most important feature of Shimano and Daiwa reels is quality. If we take a budget reel in the neighborhood of three thousand rubles from Shimano and compare it with another reel with the same price tag, the “meat grinder” from the famous brand will still be better. Here comes into play and the quality of assembly, and a special attitude to details, and most importantly – velvet soft stroke. Many other brands cannot boast of smooth running. The smoothness of the ride is influenced by many components. Here and the quality of the main pair, namely the way the driving and driven gears are mated, the quality of bearings used in the reel, and, of course, the correct lubrication and its optimal amount. It happens that you buy a new “meat grinder”, and it “rustles” – this is a clear sign that there is very little grease in it. But this kind of mistake can be found even in Shimano and Daiwa reels. And here we are talking about the human factor, but good thing in these brands such a problem is not very common.

Reliability of mechanism and technology

Another factor that affects the quality of the reel is the reliability of the mechanism. The reliability of the mechanism is directly proportional to the technology used in the reel. And Shimano and Daiwa develop something interesting almost every year. Plus, nowadays there is a tendency to use expensive technologies in the more budget segment. Here are two very simple examples. Previously you could only see a screw-in handle in Daiwa reels starting in the mid-range segment, but now the situation has changed. Now even the budget Exceler has a screw-in handle.

What does this solution give us? Firstly, there is no backlash in the handle, which is a very common problem in folding handles, and secondly, this handle gives us a different impression of smoothness. Nothing dangles and does not knock – it is elementary comfort. Now concerning Shimano. This company also actively introduces technologies from more expensive reels into the budget segment. For example, the Nasci reel has the X-Ship system, which was previously used only in expensive models. This technology makes the reel run smoother and extends the life of the reel due to the enlarged pinion of the main gear. I think the list goes on and on, but the point is clear. Now the budget reels of the leading brands have become even better!

I am ninety percent sure that anyone who has tried Shimano and Daiwa reels at least once in his life will never look at other brands again. As time passes, our needs grow, and with them the idea of reels. We used to be satisfied with a reel for three or four thousand rubles, but with experience we want to try more expensive units. A friend of mine bought a Twin Power from Shimano about ten years ago. The reel is not cheap – it is a purebred Japanese. And imagine that this unit is still in excellent condition! Once a year Twin Power passes TO. There is wear inside, but not critical and this is for ten years of active fishing! Another reel, pardon the expression, would have bent, but not a fighter from Shimano. A similar example of reliability and quality is the Daiwa Certate.

Reels for sport fishing

It is precisely thanks to such “meat grinders” Shimano and Daiwa received their popularity and love among many anglers of the world. Also an indicator of quality is the fact that the reels of these brands are widely used by sportsmen. And here I am one hundred percent sure that most of the sportsmen use only Shimano and Daiwa. Since I myself am a member of the Saratov trout club, as a person looking at it from the outside, I can confidently say that almost everyone uses only top “meat grinders”. What does an expensive reel give in aryan fishing? The most important thing is the overall sensitivity of the tackle. The operation of an expensive mechanism is smoother and finer, hence the sensitivity. And also the most important plus of expensive “inertia-free” reels is a finely adjustable friction. I very often catch pond trout and in such fishing constantly use the thinnest “cords” diameter #0.2 – 0.3 according to the Japanese classification. And only finely adjustable friction allows the use of braided line of the thinnest diameter.

Another major plus of expensive reels is that they almost never drop loops. Although this can also happen, but very rarely. What affects the formation of loops? The first thing is the laying of the fishing line. All of us are used to tweeze wobblers, and it is on the jerks, the coils on many coils are laid unevenly, which contributes to the formation of loops. And very often “loops” is the reel, which is badly laying the “cord”. In “meat grinders” Shimano and Daiwa this problem is almost completely solved. As already mentioned at the beginning of the article, these companies are famous for their unique developments. So Daiwa specialists have developed a unique Cross Wrap technology, which practically eliminates the formation of loops. Shimano reels also have a similar system, which is called X Aero Wrap.

In both ultralight and headfishing you can’t do without a high-end reel. The thing is that in the production of expensive “meat grinders” are used only reliable materials that can withstand high loads. When we catch a jig, the main pair gets a lot of load and if this node is made of cheap metals, then soon it will come into disrepair, the teeth of the drive gear will simply rub off, and the reel will “roar”. That is why I make my choice in favor of reels Daiwa and Shimano. And no other company, in my opinion, can compete with these giants of “reel building”.

Oh, I just snagged a new spinning reel and it’s a game changer! The smoothness when casting is unreal! I caught a huge bass last weekend, and it handled like a dream. Can’t wait to hit the water again and test it out more! 🎣
