Surely many people have heard the fight of the stud. When a large stud comes to the surface to feed, it feels as if a man is swimming. So powerful and strong he hits. And no matter how many times I tried to catch him, I was always left with nothing. I remember only once during the year I managed to outwit him on a popper, when the river was a strong fog and the stud just lost vigilance. I began to read more literature, communicate with colleagues in the hobby and even began to catch it. But when I tried fishing from a boat, everything else instantly went into the background. And if many people think that the stud is caught only in the spring and fall, and in the summer he bites only at dawn and dusk, it is a complete misconception. It can be caught even at a very close distance, which is very spectacular, exciting and gives great pleasure, especially when fishing with light tackle. I want to tell you more about such fishing.
Choosing a fishing spot
I consider the most important part of the hunt for stud to be the choice of location. If you catch where this fish does not stand or does not hunt, then, of course, no result will not be achieved. That is why I devote time to this process even at home. Of course, I have my own established points. But I learned about them not from acquaintances, but by conducting reconnaissance trips, and almost every fishing trip began with rafting on a new site, which was pre-selected at home, sitting at the computer, and recently sitting in the phone. And to do it now is easy: we only need satellite maps and a little patience.
I use almost all services that provide satellite images, because on each of them the river is shown at different times and you can analyze the place in more detail. And what we need is a stream, which the Shearwater loves very much. It can be found on the river turns, on the satellite you can see jets on the corresponding foaming of water and it is desirable the presence of bark. On clean places, the stud is also present, but there he can “wander” over a large enough area, and behind the korch on the stream, he can easily hide and wait until the prey itself will come to him. The border of the stream and the reverse current is also quite a promising place, on which comes to feed peaceful fish, and our desired predator will be waiting there. In general, we need a stream and any anomalies that can serve as a hiding place for the gutter.

Baits for catching studs can be completely different. For short distance fishing, I use the following lures.
1) Lightweight and runny oscillators, which “hold” the stream, as well as wider, which do not work so well on the current itself, but work very well when wiring along the current or in the backwaters. Of inexpensive such baits can safely advise two, relatively recently appeared on the market, models: Akara Hari Akara Kaeru.
2) Minnow wobblers are the most classic. They imitate the typical size of the diet of the stud, and he successfully responds to them. The standard size is 50-70 millimeters, preferably sinking, which fall off on the fall. An example of such a classic wobbler is the ZipBaits Rigge Flat.
3) Crankbaits, which can sometimes save the day. It seems not quite a typical bait for the stud, but there are times when he does not want to eat, but can not resist appetizingly floating small bait.
4) Pilkers, spinnerbaits – you can use them, but at a short distance to catch pilkers is not very convenient, and I personally just lost interest in spinnerbaits. And this is not because they are not catchable, but on the contrary.

Streaming salmon or trout rods are excellent for catching the rook trout. For catching short, they themselves should not be long. As such a spinning rod you can use the updated Major Craft Finetail. “On the shake” such spinning rods have a fast line, allow you to spend wobblers jerk wiring, but when a bite spinning completely changes and works already as a medium-fast or even regular, that is, the whole blank bends to the rim. This is necessary in order to quickly tire the fish, and also in order that the jherech does not tear the braiding. Why can not let go harder friction on faster spinning? It’s simple, because it will have to let go so much that it will be uncomfortable to do not only jerk, but even even even wiring against the current, because the friction will work even from such resistance. If you clamp it harder, the big stud will have time to tear the cord before the reel works. This is why I like to catch this river corsair so much. I will not dwell long on the choice of reel and braiding, it all depends solely on material abilities, the only thing is desirable that the spinning well balanced with the reel, because then when twitching will not be tired hands.
And I recommend to use 0.8# braided cord according to Japanese classification. This is a thin enough cord, which will not affect the game and depth of wobblers. In addition, it is strong enough to fight with large studs. The only thing is that in this kind of fishing I use four strands. The reason is simple – at a short distance, and even with squashes, the braiding often rubs on all sorts of twigs, squashes, and sometimes during a gust of wind and on the overhanging bush thrown. In general, the eight-core cord “gives up” much faster than 4-core cord, and we do not need the advantage in the form of a longer throw from the boat. All these recommendations I wrote on the basis of personal experience. Of course, if you do not have special gear, then you can catch a stud with any spinning rod, but it will not be so comfortable.

I wish everyone to catch always different, capricious and strong handsome jerkh! It is only worth it to believe in your strength, to show patience, then everything will definitely work out!

Last summer, we went out on a boat and spotted some jellyfish floating around. We got a net and started catching them for fun. It was a blast! Each jellyfish had its unique glow. Just a cool way to connect with nature while enjoying the day on the water!
