In recent years, fishing for wobblers is gaining more and more momentum and is becoming very popular among our spinners. This is understandable, as the line of these baits is very large and each spinningist can pick up a wobbler for different fish, and under different fishing conditions. Paddle wobblers can be divided into three main classes: minnow, crankbaits and sheads. Today we will talk about wobblers of the class crank (Crank).
Currently, the fishing bait market has a huge number of wobblers that excite the imagination of even the most experienced anglers. And to identify some wobblers by class is becoming more and more difficult. This is especially true for short bubbles, because in addition to crankbaits there are also fats (Fat). Many anglers allocate them in a separate class, others believe that it is nothing but a variety of crankbaits. If you look in the English dictionary, the word Fat translated as “fat”, and the word Crank means “crank”. In fact, crankbaits have a short and thick body. But behave during wiring both representatives as cranks, that is, they have not just their own, but a fairly active game. Therefore, let’s agree and allocate these wobblers in one class Crank and consider fats as one of the varieties.
As a rule, these lures have a positive degree of buoyancy. But you and I know that every rule can have exceptions. Therefore, if desired, you can find sinking crankbaits or with neutral buoyancy. In addition, this type of bait has differently sized nose blades, which provides each with its own horizon of passage under water. In its majority of manufacturing firms such as Jackall, Lucky Craft, Megabass, Smith and others designate it with some kind of letter abbreviation: SSR, SR, MR and DR. Others, like Ever Green, simply write the name of the wobbler and designate its working depth of passage in centimeters, for example, Combat Crank 180. The designation of the depth of passage in centimeters, as in Combat, is clear and no questions arise. Another thing is the abbreviation, which may confuse a novice spinning player. Therefore, first you need to understand what these letters stand for, and then translate the words from English into Russian.
- SSR – Super Shallow Runner – super shallow wobblers that go directly under the surface of the water about 20 cm.
- SR (Shallow Runner) – Shallow wobblers are usually buried at least 1 meter.
- MR (Medium Runner) – wobblers of medium depth, created for fishing at a depth of 1-2 meters.
- DR (Deep Runner) – deep-water models can dive to a depth of 2-6 meters.
All wobblers do not have a clear horizon of passage, but approximate. Because it is impossible to accurately indicate at what depth goes krenk with this or that abbreviation. The horizon of passage can differ not only in baits of different brands, but also in different models of the same manufacturer. And in addition to this on the depth of diving can still affect other factors: the strength of the current in the place of fishing, the range of throwing the wobbler itself, the thickness of the cord or fishing line used. Hence the averaged figures. In general, focusing on this abbreviation, there is a certain understanding of what this type of bait, which can be used in different fishing conditions. And if the use of krenki possible in different places with different depths, then the following question is asked: “What fish can count on the angler – spinning?”. Here you can answer unequivocally – on any, so-called, spinning fish.
Trout
We are talking primarily about trout pond trout. It is clear that and brook trout can be caught with wobblers of this class. But still, many experts in such fishing in the first place among the bulk baits put sinking wobblers class minnow. And there is an explanation for this, but now we are not talking about it. Despite the fact that you can catch pond trout on other spinning baits, crankbaits are also in trout fishermen’s cherished boxes and often occupy the leading positions.
As a rule, these are the smallest in size wobblers, in some cases have on the rear tee or hook down from feathers. And it is the trout crankbaits are equipped instead of the usual tees, single beardless hooks. For example, Lucky Craft Air Blow or Bassday Kangoku Crank 27F. And Kangoku are available in both floating and sinking versions, which is very relevant when fishing for trout. This fish can be in different horizons of water. And to reach it at depth with a small wobbler is not always possible. In such cases and can help sinking models. After throwing the bait give it a few seconds to sink into the water column or even to the bottom. Paid reservoirs with trout more often have a clean bottom, not choked, you should not be afraid of snags in such places. Then slowly start a steady wiring. After five or six revolutions of the coil stop the wiring and let the bait again sink into the water column or lie on the bottom, and again start wiring. Such actions with a sinking wobbler allow us to penetrate the lower layers of the reservoir and provoke trout to bite. With floating everything is easier, threw the bait and do a leisurely wiring.
Golavl
The same baits can be used to catch chub, especially if we are talking about small rivers. If we catch chub on large rivers or reservoirs, then here mill with crankbaits should not be. Golavl big water equally can attack wobblers in size from 38 mm, as Jackall – Chubby 38F, to fifty millimeter Flat Mini from Lucky Craft, and in some cases and larger. And here can be in demand wobblers with almost any degree of immersion, from super shallow-water models to the deepest. Everything will depend on the specific place of fishing.
Ahven
In most cases, all of the above crenki, designed for catching trout and chub, are guaranteed to be suitable for catching perch. Of course, with some adjustments to fishing spots or depth of diving. It is understood that the perch is a gregarious fish and places of its dislocation or feeding can often coincide with the places of catching chub, for example, rolls. But, if the golavl on the rolls is best to catch on wobblers class SSR or SR, then the perch here is best suited to those models that have the abbreviation MR or DR. That is, these two species can calmly coexist in one place, but, as a rule, will control different horizons of the reservoir.
Pike and pikeperch
The larger the fish, the larger the size of the bait should be. To some extent this is true, but this does not mean that you can not catch a large pike or pikeperch on a small-sized krenk. You can, but, most likely, it will be a pleasant bycatch or an exception to the rules. You and I are interested in the purposeful catching of a particular fish. Pike on wobblers krenki can be caught in different places and with different fishing conditions. For example, in heavily overgrown ponds. In this case will be in demand the most shallow-water models, which are either buried just a few centimeters from the surface or those that go on the water surface and draw a mustache on the surface. If our catching takes place on deep waters, then, having found a promising place with some bottom anomaly, you can use crank dip models.
Why are we looking for bottom anomaly and what is it? According to the classics of the spinning genre, pike or pikeperch in most cases are tied to bottom anomalies. It can be anything: snags or other objects on the bottom, a local pit or some elevation, anglers often call it “table”, channel slump or choked channel. All these things are for the predator either home or dining room, in general, the place where the fish of interest can be more often than anywhere else. Therefore, scratching the sandy bottom of some beach with a nose spatula is not as promising an activity as feeding the bait as close as possible to any of these bottom anomalies. Very often fish attack our crankbaits after another contact of the wobbler with a bottom obstacle. At the moment when there is a failure of the game of the bait. In other cases, you can make such a failure yourself. That is, having driven the wobbler to the working depth, we start the even wiring and at some point make a sharp, short jerk with the rod, knocking the wobbler from the game. Then again we start slow even wiring and so several times. And in general, krenki, as well as other wobblers, there is no clear algorithm of actions during wiring. Fisherman equally can apply any wiring, starting from the banal uniform. And include here also different kinds of variations from the change of speed to the failure of the wobbler from the game. Or apply the wiring, the so-called “stop and go”. But what of this will be interesting to fish, we can only find out if we are not lazy and experiment during fishing. As for the size of wobblers krenki, then the lures can start from five centimeters and end with our imagination based on the size of the proposed trophies, fishing conditions and the power of the tackle. As an option it can be crankbaits, Megabass MD-X Cyclone, O.S.P Blitz EX-DR or Deps DC-400 Cascabel.
Wobblers-Krenki are very catchable, and in some cases are simply indispensable during fishing, but this does not mean that krenki are the most real panacea for a no-bite. In fact, it is only one of the types of baits that occupy in our fishing boxes their rightful place, and in fishing they are a good addition to other no less catching.

I gotta say, those crank and fat class wobblers are game-changers! Last weekend, I used a fat wobbler at the lake, and I caught a monster bass. If you’re not using them, you’re missing out! Get on board, and let’s reel in those big ones together!
I’ve had a blast using crank and fat class wobblers for bass fishing! Last weekend, I caught my biggest bass ever with a bright crankbait. The action was insane! It’s amazing how these lures can make such a difference in attracting fish. Can’t wait to hit the water again!
I remember catching a decent bass using a fat class wobbler last summer. The way it swayed through the water was killer! It really drew in the fish. Crank or fat class, both can be game-changers, but I prefer that wobble action. Can’t wait to hit the lake again!
I totally get the hype around crank and fat class wobblers! Last summer, I snagged a monster bass using one. It was a game changer for my fishing trips! Those baits really deliver when it comes to attracting fish. Can’t wait to try em out next weekend!
