Második esély: hogyan javítsuk a nem fogó wobblereket?

Image 1 : Second chance: how to improve wobblers that don't catch

It is unlikely that at least one spinningist has not faced the fact that the bait does not bring results, no matter how it is not stubborn and did not try to “catch” in all sorts of ways. And do not matter its price and quality, does not catch and that’s it! Surely happened?

The reasons may be different, starting from the skills of the fisherman, ending with banal luck.

Most often it leads to shoving a careless bait in a far corner or getting rid of it altogether.

But it does not always make sense to go to such extreme measures, especially when it comes to wobblers. Many of them should be given a second chance and the result may surprise!

It happens that time passes, circumstances arise and our opinion about the wobbler changes by itself. But more often for this you should make an effort and a little imagination.

There are several ways how to improve wobblers that do not catch us. Let’s consider the two most important of them:

Changing the buoyancy

Image 3 : Second chance: how to improve wobblers that don't catch

If you go a little into theory, wobblers can be divided by this property into floating, sinking and neutral buoyancy.

Each of them is good with its own qualities and is useful in suitable conditions. In theory … Sometimes it happens that the stated characteristics do not correspond to the real ones, suitable conditions change, as well as the mood of the predator and we have to sometimes by improvised means to achieve the result.

Image 4 : Second chance: how to improve wobblers that don't catch

The most vivid example is loading a wobbler on a water body. For example, once I got on the big water in the wrong period – hot, July, and the object of catching – pike. The water on the lake was incredibly clear, the activity of fish at zero.

As baits only jerkbaits. Points localized, and parking at anchor reduced all attempts to catch to nothing, so we had to raft on a sailing anchor and catch the moment. Sometimes the point was passed for 2-3 throws … and, as it turned out, the pike stood at the bottom and asked for a feed “under the nose”.

The situation was saved by overloading the bait. Slowly sinking jerk was additionally loaded with a 20-gram “cheburashka” so that the fall to the bottom was as fast as possible. In the end it helped to save the fishing trip!

This method is also applicable to wobblers, more often large, with active own game. Otherwise, such a load can break their game.

This method is good when we need a lure in the role of “axe”, from which you can not boil soup, but for a moment to fall to the bottom – for a good soul!

It is needed not so often, but sometimes it helps us out really well. From the minuses – the impact on the game of the bait, a high probability of snagging.

Another case. Fast falling is not necessary, but hanging in the water column – on the contrary. Of course, you will say that you can take with you wobblers-suspenders (neutral buoyancy) and you will be partly right. However, the floating ones often have a much more active game and residual vibrations (rolling), for which they are loved by many types of predators. In addition, some models of wobblers do not have the appropriate buoyancy, and when “tuning” give a head start to many!

At the same time, the first wobblers (floating initially) when loaded do not lose their active properties and become livelier than their original colleagues from the factory.

Checked on wobblers Deps Balisong 130F, Nories Laydown Minnow 110HF, TsuOki Chance 130F and others.

The second are generally unique in their qualities in the absence of analogs.

Bright representatives of the second category are wobblers Tsuribito Jerkbait 80 and 105, Tsuribito Minnow 130, O.S.P. Bent Minnow, Itumo Samba 100F and td.

As a first method of such loading is the use of ready-made ” Suspendots” (for example, Kosadaka Suspendots), which are thin lead plates of different shapes, smeared on one side with glue. They can be easily unhooked and glued on the wobbler in the required amount.

On the downside – sometimes peel off, but it is convenient to adjust the buoyancy of wobblers on the spot.

The second way is to cut pieces of lead and glue them with the help of super-glue or epoxy “fellow”. You can make them from anything, for example, flatten old broken jig heads and other weights. Surely every fisherman has such a reserve stock from the old days.

And then it’s a matter of technique. Carefully cut and choose a place for gluing. Through many experiments, the best place for lead – at the bottom, just behind the front tee of the wobbler. Most have their center of gravity right there and a small plate can make the bait not only change the buoyancy, but also give an unforgettable game.

You can also use wire or the same lead, winding them on the front tee of the wobbler or several at once, but the external aesthetics is lost, in addition, for some baits such a load will not be enough because of the small effect on buoyancy. Sometimes such a “schmatat” winding is necessary that it is easier to glue a plate from the bottom.

Coloring

The attitude to the color of the wobbler everyone is different and sometimes on the forums there are disputes, and whether the coloring plays any role?

The answer to it everyone will give for themselves. Certainly catches the fisherman and faith in the bait often provides 80 percent of the final result, but it still happens that the wobbler does not catch in a particular coloring.

I personally happened more than once. And sometimes it came to the absurd, when the ratio of catches on similar colors of one wobbler was about 1 to 20.

And it happened that such losers were sold or dusted in the farthest corner …

But then came the thought, and why not change the hated coloring?

There are simpler and more complicated ways. The first one is to use a marker and over the factory paint to draw your own pattern or partially paint something. For this purpose, ordinary permanent markers or special markers for painting baits, for example, Spike It, are suitable. They even have an additional flavoring to attract fish.

The method is simple and reliable, in case of erasure, you can always circle again right at the place of fishing.

The second is much more labor-intensive, but the flight of fancy is much wider. This is painting with the help of various water-resistant paints.

For it, you will need cans of car paint or acrylic containers, as well as universal varnish, which lays down on any painted surface.

Why automobile paints? Yes, because they are resistant to any external influences, including water protection.

The process of painting looks like this: first you need to remove the hooks from the wobbler, then tape the loops and blade, as well as the eyes of the wobbler. If the entire wobbler will be the same color, then only the eyes are taped on the body. If only its individual parts are painted, then, accordingly, everything else.

In the case of painting the lure in several colors at once, first apply lighter and more voluminous patterns, then 2 thin layers of paint, each of which dries for an average of 1.5-2 hours. After applying the second layer, drying takes about a day.

After that, the wobbler is covered with universal varnish in the same couple of layers, drying in about the same proportions as the paint.

For coloring is very convenient homemade machine from two metal “crocodiles” from the charger, fixed on long self-tapping screws 150-200 mm long, inserted into two metal corners with multiple holes.

The corners, in turn, are fixed on a scrap of board with self-tapping wood screws. Depending on the length of the wobbler, you can adjust the distance between the “clothespins” by screwing in or out the self-tapping screws or by moving the corners, fixing them with self-tapping screws.

Why do you need such a machine? The answer is simple – painting becomes much more convenient, with the help of this simple mechanism you can easily turn the wobbler any side and paint its smallest detail.

If you want a smoother surface, you can process the painted areas with fine sandpaper (#800, 1000) before coating with varnish, thereby removing any possible bloopers from painting.

Yes, no one canceled degreasing before painting and after processing with “sandpaper”. Alcohol is the best medicine, in the sense of degreaser!

As a result, you get a slightly updated bait, which can play not only with new colors, but also find a second life and please us with a lot of nibbles!

I hope these simple tips were useful and will help you to take a new look at your non-working lures.
