If you spend a little time and dig through the Internet, you can easily find a lot of articles, which are quite detailed in absolutely all ways of catching and even a lot of advice on how to catch a particular species. But, for example, in articles devoted to the catching of zhorekh, the bias is mainly in the good old “iron”, and only a little bit mentioned minnow wobblers or their surface brethren – poppers and volkers. Meanwhile, there is another rather interesting type of baits in the form of sinking lipless minnow (Lipless minnow) or, as they are called, stickbait (stick – stick/bait – bait). Well, as you have already guessed, in this article I will try to eliminate this injustice, especially since the unpopularity of stickbait just caused by the lack of any clear information on their use and purpose in our conditions ….

Where, who and when

I use stickbait most often when fishing on the rolls or in the coastal zone

Let’s start with the fact that these lures, as a rule, with a compact and small body have a fairly large weight. In addition, the design of the wobbler does not have a paddle diving, all this together gives us simply phenomenal throwing range. Accordingly, the places of application are limited only by your imagination and the possibilities of your kit. I recently prefer light tackle, so I use stickbait mainly when fishing on the rolls or in the coastal zone of large rivers.

Due to the fact that most models in the water retains a horizontal position, and not immediately sinks stone to the bottom, you can use this bait even on frank shoals. Especially since most often small stickbait are used just in the subsurface layer, and if you do not bury them specially, on average they go no deeper than half a meter. Well, if you let them sink, then, most often taking a horizontal position, stickbait when diving begin to fall over from side to side and additionally attract predators with this shimmering. Some manufacturers even indicate on the package at what speed this model is able to dive to one meter.

It happens that the fish ignores surface baits, but reacts to those that go a little lower

If we consider small stickbaits like DUO Tetra Works Yurameki 48S, ZipBaits Rigge Raphael or Megabass Terrier, then first of all it is catching or in spring , when the stud feeds rolling with water fry, or catching small fish throughout the season. Of course, there are exceptions in the form of well-fed sherespere in early August or even September, but the average small size is relevant in the first half of summer. And here are slightly larger models in the form of BLUES CODE C60, Smith Troutin Surger or Smith Cherry Blood LL 70S are relevant throughout the season or in cases where we just need a long throwing range.

Also, it is probably worth answering the question: why stickbaits?

• First of all, those who are catching stud, probably familiar with the picture, when even 20 centimeters of difference in the horizon of wiring can dramatically affect the result of the whole fishing. Of course, to a greater extent this applies to the summer period, but nevertheless it happens that the corsair completely ignores surface baits and greedily rushes to everything that goes just below the surface of the water.

• Secondly, as in the case of light fluctuating blades, it is an absolute variety in the methods of animation, but … due to the bulkiness of stickbait we can use it where the fluctuating bait in the same weight will simply collect all the garbage on the bottom.

A little bit about tackle

Spinning is preferable not very stiff

I have only two main requirements for the gear I use – it is the test and the rod structure. In the first case we just need adequate throwing distance and at the same time the ability to fight even with large sherespere on equal terms, and in the second case it is much easier to work with stickbaits when the spinning rod is not very stiff (moderate-fast and fast).

As for the reel, I don’t have any special requirements, except for quality cord winding. The size I prefer 2500 (shimano) or 2506/2508 (daiwa), the only thing is that if you have predominant wiring upstream, it is better to consider buying the high-speed versions, as it is much more convenient to work with them in this way.

If we consider this issue globally, when fishing stickbait can be used almost anything that just comes into your head, but in practice in 90% of cases it is either “even” with a fairly low speed winding and periodic pauses with holding the bait on the stream, or jerk wacker wiring with a slightly higher speed due to the negative buoyancy of the wobbler. There are also exceptions, because when feeding stickbait upstream you will definitely have to speed up the wiring, otherwise you just drive it to the bottom or when fishing the coastal edge under the cliffs is very useful to make small pauses, so that our stickbait had time to “crumble” a little. In addition, there are options and jig wiring stickbait at the bottom, but it mostly applies to large models with a weight of 20-30 grams.

As for the choice between jerk and even wiring, then during the day, even on the same roll, the preferences of sheresper can change dramatically, it is worth periodically trying both options. The control of our bait during jerks is very simple – if the stickbait starts to cling to the leash, then jerks should be made a little softer and shorter. That’s why I prefer moderate-fast or fast spinning line, as this option is a little forgiving of missteps in wiring and smooths out all the “sharp corners”.

By the way, sometimes a very good result brings and chaotic and haphazard twitching, during which our stickbait runs like a crazy mallow. Apparently, at this moment the stud simply turns on the hunting instinct, and he begins to actively pursue the prey running away from him “in terror”.
