I am sure that most spinning anglers have faced or will face a situation on fishing when the predator, in our case it is a pike, lives in shallow water among dense vegetation, and not all lures are suitable. My experience of catching pike is inseparably connected with such fishing conditions, where most of the small river is covered with a cover of grass, so the main backbone of baits in my box for catching pike are shallow-water baits, which are designed for such difficult fishing conditions.

1. “Unloading”

One of the most effective and at the same time simple montages I have for catching pike in shallow water during many summer seasons. There are no restrictions on the choice of type of silicone bait, but I still prefer vibrohovost. Favorite colors: white and bright acid. On a small river I recommend not to be shallow with the size of the offset hook, below the size of 3/0 should not be used, and better 4/0 or 5/0 respectively, and the size of the vibrotail or, for example, twister should be suitable – from 3.5 to 5 inches. Catch “unload” all season of open water, but best of all in the height of summer, when the pike most of the time keeps near dense vegetation.

Disadvantages:

2. topwater

A common type of bait for catching pike in the conditions of an overgrown reservoir. Distinguish poppers, walkers and hybrids, which combine two types of these baits. As a rule, they fly far. Excellent themselves show themselves in the summer, with warming water, and the best time to catch – quiet morning and evening zori, although in the midst of a hot day topwater should not be ignored. Poppers and walkers are also good scouts of active predators in large overgrown water areas.

Ways of wiring:

Twitching fast or slow pace depending on the activity of the pike.

Advantages:

1. great interest on the part of the predator to the “gurgling” bait;

2. excellent searchers in shallow water;

3. beautiful attacks of pike from the surface.

Disadvantages:

1. a lot of misses on bites;

2. proper wiring requires skill and stamina from the angler.

3. Subsurface Wobblers

To this class of baits include different types of wobblers: krenki, minnow, sheads. And all these baits have one thing in common – the horizon of their wiring, as a rule, does not exceed half a meter, thanks to which these baits successfully catch pike, which is kept in shallow water in the half-water, but for some reason ignores surface wobblers, for example, the previously mentioned top-water.

Wiring methods:

Depending on the type of wobbler, the wiring may differ: for the krenk – even, and for the minnow and shad – twitching.

Advantages:

1. high realization of nibbles;

2. catch low-active pike.

Disadvantages:

1. high snagging compared to other types of baits.

4. Swimbaits (compound wobblers)

This type of wobblers due to the composite parts of the body has a unique, “live” game, at the expense of which and coaxes a hearty or inactive pike on the bite. The best conditions for catching swimbaits – small areas of open water, among the cover of grass. Swimbaits come in different degrees of buoyancy, respectively, if the site shallow, it is better to use a floating or neutral buoyancy wobbler, if there is a small hole – sinking model. Since the bait due to the broken body plays even on the spot, it catches even extremely cautious predator in hot and cold weather.

Wiring methods:

Twitching, with short and simultaneously soft jerks.

Advantages:

1. the best lures for spot-catching a promising, localized place;

2. swimbaits perfectly catch passive predators.

Disadvantages:

1. due to the constituent parts of the body, the accuracy and range of throwing suffers.

5. Spinning and oscillating blades

Not quite suitable baits for catching pike in shallow water, but with proper skill blades can be successfully caught in the overgrown grassy area, where with the tip of the spinning can control the horizon of wiring. Blades allow you to very quickly catch a promising, shallow area on the river, thus this type of bait is great for rafting or fast shore fishing.

Wiring methods:

Uniform.

Advantages:

1. changeable wiring horizon;

2. fast pace of fishing.

Disadvantages:

1. often cling to the grass, if the “open” tee;

2. effective blades mainly when the pike is active.

6. Surface rubber lures

These baits can be attributed to topwater, but due to the tightly pressed hook and imitation of a certain living object, they can rightfully be allocated to a separate category of surface baits. Since the hook, which is in most cases double, pressed tightly to the body of a duck or a frog, then throw them can be in the thickest thickets, where behind the thick cover of grass often from the heat hides pike. Attacks of fish on these baits is a lot, but, unfortunately, most of them blank. The best fishing time is similar to topwater.

Wiring:

Jerk, with different speeds of wiring.

Advantages:

1. beautiful pike nibbles from the surface;

2. “rovers” among baits.

Disadvantages:

1. due to the tightly pressed hook to the body of the lure, the realization of nibbles suffers greatly.

With all this huge variety of baits a large number of them in the box is not necessary to have, enough 1-2 baits from each position, then catching pike in shallow water will be productive and at the same time very spectacular and memorable.
