There is a belief that fish have a good memory. Whether this is true or not, today’s fish are definitely more cautious of the baits presented to them. Therefore, the angler has to constantly think. You can say, to collect a kind of puzzle, thus selecting one or another key to successful fishing.
One of these puzzle pieces is a fluorocarbon line, which has earned the trust of many fishing enthusiasts. Fluorocarbon is equally successfully used in summer and winter in feeder, spinning and other types of fishing.
Advantages of fluorocarbon
Undoubtedly, the key advantage of fluorocarbon fishing line, relative to monofilament or braided, is its invisibility in the water. But this is far from its only advantage.
To the advantages of fluorocarbon fishing line can be attributed:
1. In the water is practically invisible to fish. There is no need to fill the entire spool with it, and it is enough only to tie a leash of the required length. Outside the water, it is simply impossible to distinguish mono fishing line from fluorocarbon. But once these lines are in the water, the difference becomes clear. This property of fluorocarbon lines is very relevant when fishing wary and inactive fish. The number of nibbles on the tackle, which uses fluorocarbon leashes, significantly exceeds the number of nibbles with titanium or metal.
2. Impervious to the influence of ultraviolet sunlight. Thanks to this, the fishing line retains its strength for a long time, thus allowing you to save money.
3. Balanced extensibility indicators. On bites, fluorocarbon is more sensitive than monofilament. On the lashing better than braid, plays back the jerk of the fish, thereby increasing the rate of realized nibbles.
4. good resistance to mechanical damage. Thanks to this, in areas with a rocky bottom, coquina and other abrasive fluorocarbon retains greater strength than monofilament and braided lines. In winter fishing, this property is also very relevant, because there is constant friction of the line with the ice edge in the hole. Thus, fluorocarbon line will not only last much longer, but will also allow you to pull out the caught fish with a higher probability.
5. Durability. Even if suddenly, when catching fish on fluorocarbon there are burrs, it still retains most of its strength. Monofil in such a case loses much of its strength.
6. Unaffected by temperatures. The same fluorocarbon fishing line can be used in summer and winter.
7. Not soaked by moisture. When using fluorocarbon in winter, the fishing line does not freeze and does not lose strength. Initially, nylon monofilament surpasses the indicators of fluorocarbon by its breaking loads. But as soon as the monofilament is in the water, the process of absorption of moisture into the structure of the fishing line begins. The diameter of the monofilament line increases, freezing occurs and its strength decreases.
8. The weight of fluorocarbon fishing line contributes to its faster immersion. This indicator is relevant, for example, in feeder fishing for fish standing near the bottom.
9. The degree of rigidity of fluorocarbon promotes its use on multipliers. Under the influence of heavy loads coils of fishing line do not crash into each other.
Application of fluorocarbon leashes
Speaking about the fishing direction in general, we can say that most fishing enthusiasts with all hands “FOR” the use of fluorocarbon leashes. But if we talk about the use of fluorocarbon in spinning fishing, then here the opinions of anglers are slightly divided. Some consider the use of fluorocarbon leashes unjustified. Because when catching a pike, despite the resistance of the material to mechanical damage, there is a high probability of biting her leash and, as a consequence, the loss of expensive bait. We can not say that this statement is devoid of common sense, because everyone has different financial opportunities. And for someone to lose a wobbler worth 1-2 thousand, or even 500 rubles is extremely undesirable.
If we are talking about spinning fishing with jig baits, then here, due to their lower cost is much easier to decide to use a leash made of fluorocarbon. And this is facilitated by such advantages as invisibility, resistance to damage and ease of use. These parameters increase the likelihood of a bite and its successful realization. Thereby overlapping the probability of loss of jig bait.
If you do not even take into account the financial component of the issue, there are times when the use of leash fluorocarbon is very risky. For example, at competitions, when each caught fish on the account. In these cases, it is still worth reinsuring against pike teeth and give preference to titanium and metal leashes.
Ways of mounting leashes from fluorocarbon
Of the variety of fishing knots can be distinguished several most suitable for tying fluorocarbon to the main line:
1. “Albright”. This knot is suitable for splicing fishing lines of different diameters. The knot is good because the way it is knitted is easy enough to memorize and repeat;
2. “Grinner.” Used for tying to the fluorocarbon leash swivels or rings. The knot is simple to make and reliable enough;
3. “Carrot”. A reliable connection for splicing fluorocarbon and braid, which allows you to get a reliable cone-shaped knot of compact size. Due to its shape, the knot is easier to pass through the rings, but it is quite long to knit.
Whatever the knot, the main thing is not to forget to wet it with water while tightening it. Otherwise, you can burn the fishing line and significantly reduce its strength.
How to make your own fluorocarbon leash
Today on the market of fishing goods is a large number of fluorocarbon leashes of different lengths and breaking load. At the same time, it will not be difficult to make them yourself.
To do this, you will need:
1. a section of fluorocarbon of the required length and diameter. Choosing for these purposes fluorocarbon, it is worth giving preference to the leash. Since its structure is more rigid and has greater resistance to damage. Usually leash fluorocarbon is sold in small unwinding up to 30-50 meters. However, you should be careful, because on the market there are fishing lines that are only covered with a layer of fluorocarbon and do not have any advantages over monofilament. The diameter of the fishing line should be selected so that its breaking load is slightly less than that of the main fishing line. This will significantly save on the purchase of the same braid, because the breaks will be on the leash itself.
2. crimp tubes. The diameter of the tube should be such that it could be threaded through the fluorocarbon 2-3 times and thus get a more reliable connection. For crimping is quite suitable for ordinary pliers, which are used to compress the crimp tube in several places.
3. Carabiners with swivels and winding rings. Should be proportionate and withstand the same loads as fluorocarbon leash. When assembling, it is necessary to fix a swivel/swivel with a carabiner on one side of the leash and a carabiner or a winding ring on the other side.
If the place of fishing is supposed to be a large number of breaks, then you can save on crimp tubes and make loops on the leash with the usual knot “eight” or “grinner”. Also, if the fishing is done exclusively on collapsible cheburashki, then the carabiner can also be excluded from the installation, and the lures can be attached directly to the loop of the leash.
In cases where fluorocarbon leashes are required quite long, up to 1-2 meters, connect the fluorocarbon with the main line is desirable compact knot type “carrot”. In this case, the risk of damaging the spinning rings during the throwing of the bait is reduced.
Apatinė eilutė
Flurocarbon leashes unequivocally deserve attention. Regardless of whether the leashes are bought fluorocarbon ready or made independently, their cost is disproportionately small in relation to the pleasure of more productive fishing. Due to their properties, leashes from fluorocarbon allows you to catch cautious fish with a higher probability and realize the bite on difficult areas with coquina, branches and stones. And in cases where the main object of fishing is pike and do not want to risk losing the bait, you can give preference to metal and titanium leashes.

Fluorocarbon leashes are game changers! I remember using one while bass fishing last summer; the stealth was unreal, and those bites came in hot! Super durable too—definitely worth the investment for any angler looking to up their game. Can’t wait to try them with my next catch!
