When fishing on ultralight is used all sorts of baits, capable of striking and arousing interest not only in the most sophisticated fisherman, but also in any fish. These are imitations of fry, different variations of insects, crayfish, worms and others. One thing that unites such lures is the lightest weight and small size. At someone UL snap cause a smile or even laughter, but it is worth only to try ultralight tackle, to understand the meaning of such fishing and already the joker himself winds up a small box. As a rule, at the beginning of the way – these are universal lightweight tiners or silicone lures.

Types and types of ultralight baits

UL tackle is difficult to structure by type of target fish or fishing conditions, since for the most part any such gear is quite universal. The main differences, as in classic spinning, are in the baits, the type of which depends on how we catch, where we catch and who we catch. If you do not go very deep into the nuances, then ultralight lures can be divided into the following types:

- soft lures – these are small silicone lures for microjigging and mormyshing;

- wobblers – mainly crankbaits and sheads for fishing in currents and standing water;

- trollers – micro-coilers and miniature spinners.

Some UL fans prefer to catch one type of bait, others use all kinds of equipment, depending on the conditions and objects of fishing. Who is more interesting and convenient, because not every rod allows you to use all the variety of baits. Over the years of using ultralight I had a chance to try everything, in all types to find pros and cons, so for each class of baits I will tell in detail.

Soft ultralight baits or equipment for microjigging

Microjig baits are miniaturelures made of silicone with the addition of various attractants, the so-called edible rubber. The size of such baits is mostly 1-2″, and the weight does not exceed 1g. Rubber baits are quite different in shape and color, but initially they can be divided into 2 classes:

- Active – these are soft silicone baits that have their own game. Of course, any comparison with wobblers here will be inappropriate, but nevertheless such baits feel great on a uniform wiring in the water column (pelagic wiring) and the classic step. To this type of bait include all sorts of twisters, vibro-tails, and other baits in its structure having an active moving element, tail or claws.

- Passive baits – mainly various worms, slugs, crustaceans and insects that do not have active moving elements in its structure. On such baits is difficult to seduce fish, using the classic step and almost impossible in pelagic wiring. But it is worth a fisherman to start animating the bait himself with the top of the rod or any other similar way, then passive bait immediately reveals itself and can start nibbling where before it unsuccessfully jigged active baits.

It is difficult, or rather impossible to say exactly what type of bait will work better today. The situation can change every day and even several times a day, it all depends on the preferences of fish. But the trend of recent years is that more often win slugs and worms, rather than active rubber.

By its type, microjig uses the same types of jigs that are used in the classic jig. This is an articulated rigging, jig head, various dispersed jigs, except that the exception is the use of mormyshki, but this is already extreme and a topic for a separate article. The most popular articulated rigging is on an ordinary single hook of sizes 10 to 14, for example, Decoy Mini-Worm KR-26. On the sinkers are gaining popularity tungsten cheburashki, which has already proved many times that they have a number of advantages in relation to lead. For example, LureMax tungsten lures.

Ultralight wobblers

In UL spinning the most popular wobblers are Crank or Shad, primarily because these types have their own game and do not require additional animation. Firstly, “twitch” wobblers ultralight rod is not the best solution in principle, and secondly, because of some versatility of such models. There are certainly minnow for UL, but most of them are closer to shads or cranks in shape and animation.

Crank – perfectly catches all predatory and not only predatory fish, depending on the correctly selected fishing spot, baiting and wiring. If the tackle is super light, you can even catch bleak, if there is a reserve of power, then golovly on the rolls of large rivers and under overhanging bushes on micro rivers will become regular customers, the same applies to trout, grayling and powerful fish.

Shad – by and large, everything that is characteristic of crankbaits, fits and shads. The only difference is that UL krenki mainly have positive buoyancy and, in particular, are not suitable for stream fishing trout, because in the rapid flow of the bait will be carried to the surface. But among shads quite a lot of sinking models, which can be used to catch deep places of flat rivers, where you can not spend a pop-up wobbler or suspender and of course such a lure will not be equal when catching in the turbulent flow of the mountain stream.
