Swimbait, Jointed , compound bait, broken wobbler are all synonyms for the original fishing lure.
A swimbait is a fishing lure consisting of two or more body segments connected by a movable fastener.
History
After the wobbler was invented, and all anglers liked such a lure, it was necessary to move on. The next generation was the “broken” wobbler, compound, jujinted or swimbait.
One of the progenitors of swimbaits was the famous Lauri Rapala, who his first wobbler Floating Original divided into two parts and fastened them with a movable joint. This is how the Jointed came to be. Subsequently, the company Rapala did so with many of its models.
There was even a period of time when the Jointed was called any composite wobbler.
Classification
Swimbaits are divided according to the same classification as wobblers, namely: minnows, cranks, sheads, fetes, jerkbaits, etc. Simply put, almost any of the existing one-piece baits can become composite in the skillful hands of the designer.
The same applies to the degree of buoyancy and to the depth. Basic compound wobblers are floating (floating ), neutral buoyancy (suspending) and sinking (sinking). Depth from zero and up to the value on which the compound is designed to dive. It is not customary to subdivide swimbaits on the number of body segments, because it makes no sense. The number of segments, in general, affects only the game of the lure, but does not determine its class.
Materiał
Swimbaits are made of wood and plastic. Lures made of soft plastic have a fairly strong body. The internal frame, located in the head segment, provides a reliable attachment of the tee. The photo clearly shows the segmented body of the lure. Swimbaits have a realistic appearance.
Okablowanie
1. Uniform
The easiest swimbaits wiring is even. The swimbaits seem to be designed for this kind of wiring. When pulling the rod or winding the line, the lure begins to bend at the joints. If there are a lot of such connections, then you get a smooth game snake. Almost any swimbaits on a uniform wiring describes a sinusoid in the horizontal plane. As a rule, so play swimbaits without a diving blade. This movement is very similar to a carefree fish swimming in the water column. Even wiring can be both fast and slow. The game of swimbaits with a spatula is very similar to the game of wobblers. The head of the swimbaits with a spatula behaves like a wobbler, and the segmented body behind it wriggles like a snake. The photo clearly shows the degree of freedom of the composite body of different swimbaits.
2. Stop & Go
The stop and go (stop and go) wiring is well suited for the swimbaits. This is a uniform wiring with periodic stops. Pauses can be different, from moments, so that the wiring is disrupted, up to 40 seconds. The size of the pause depends on the fishing conditions and the degree of buoyancy of the bait. If the bait quickly floats or sinks quickly, and fishing occurs in shallow water, the pause can be small, one to three seconds.
Swimbaits with positive buoyancy when pulling the rod deepens to the working depth. If the swimbaite has neutral buoyancy, then you can experiment with pauses as you like. It often happens when the pike goes after the bait a decent distance, and as soon as there is a failure in the game or pause, the pike attacks the bait.
One of the effective wiring at a time when the pike is passive, is the wiring with long pauses and with moving the bait almost in one place. In general, if the fish is active, the wiring should be fast, if passive – slow with pauses and play in place.
In deep places sinking swimbaits are used. Here the pause serves to immerse the bait to the desired depth. Wiring at depth can be as slow uniform, and jerk, depending on the game of the compound.
Swimbaits, as a rule, are used when catching fish, if it was not possible to catch a conventional wobbler. At first, the catch begins actively playing wobbler. If the fish does not react or poked and came down, then the swimbaits go into battle.
Swimbaits Jackall Magallon, Strike Pro Glider, Lucky John Antira swim can be played almost in place. In the characteristic of the game of such composites, in addition to rolling, includes such a concept as “overkill” – it is the turning of the bait upside down belly. Such wiring is effective for passive and cautious predator.
Swimbaits in throwing
Flight characteristics of swimbaits are usually worse than wobblers. This is due to the poor aerodynamics of the composite body. With the slightest wind, the composite bait begins to twist in the air.
The system of long-range throwing is very difficult to realize. But there are composite lures with internal stationary loading, which is balanced in such a way that the flight characteristics will be almost like a solid wobbler.
When throwing a composite wobbler is not uncommon overhooks for the leash. This is due to the peculiarity of the compound body of the swimbaits. It is necessary to get used to it. More often the hooks are caught when using a non-inertial reel, less often when using a multiplicator reel. The multiplicator reel slightly slows down, stabilizes the flight of the lure, thus preventing the lure from excessive tumbling in the air. During too intensive wiring is also a high probability of hooks catching on the leash. In this case, it is necessary to adjust and use a leash of metal string. Also a weak point of some composites – is the hooks catching on each other. This happens if the body of the swimbait is too flexible. It is also necessary to get used to it, remove one of the hooks, or replace it with hooks with a shorter forend.
Features of fishing for swimbaits
- Swimbaits weighing more than 35-40 grams are usually referred to the class of jerkbaits. For baits of this weight, you need a special jerk tackle. The photo shows a jerkbait weighing 80 grams.
- On the photo you can clearly see the connection of the parts of the jerkbait. The connection can be realized in the form of metal loops or with the help of flexible material.
- For heavy swimbaits, jerk wiring is necessary. Short jerks make the jerk move beautifully from side to side. In the jerk animation must necessarily include short pauses after each series of jerks. The bait is easily controllable, it can be held and frequent short jerks, and soft wide tucks.
- Spinning or jerk tackle should correspond to the weight of the used swimbaits. There are no special requirements for the length and structure of rods. Everything depends on the personal preferences of the angler. Probably, the swimbaits in the fisherman’s box will always be in second place after the wobbler. Therefore, the characteristic of the tackle should be oriented exactly on wobblers.
- The undeniable advantage of composite wobblers is their catchability. Where wobblers, blades and silicone baits did not pass, swimbaits can show high results in seducing the predator. Often experienced spinning anglers use swimbaits on pressed reservoirs, just where it is necessary to coax cautious fish.
- Swimbaits perfectly catch at depth and shoal, in cold and warm water, small and trophy fish. Swimbait is a universal bait for cautious and inactive predator.
