“Bye-bye, all men must sleep at night…” ©
I think that this line from the famous children’s lullaby is familiar to many people, but what can we, fishermen, do if, as it happens, all the most interesting things happen at night on the river. So we have to sacrifice our precious sleep in order not to miss this significant event or just to meet the dawn on the shore of your favorite river….
This is especially true for hunters of pikeperch and zander, because it is these two predators in the summer are most active in the dark. There is also chub, but on my “home” roll he is a rare guest even in the daytime, so it is him we will leave “outside the brackets” of this narrative.

The catch depends on the time of fishing in many respects
I’m not afraid to say that this is the most important moment in night fishing, because it depends both on the bite itself and the particular species of fish that is on the river at the moment.
Gill
The best moment to catch it is the so-called “hour of the wolf” or, simply put, an hour before dawn and an hour before sunset. Of course, this does not mean that at other times he is not caught at all, but, as a rule, it is at dusk that he is most active and massively goes out to feed in certain places. In addition, among other things, it is at this time he is not so afraid of the fisherman and less cautious. As for the night itself, then after sunset corsair is not delayed much, and all catches after the onset of complete darkness are more episodic than natural.
Well, and if to be quite specific, then, for example, in June the best time – it is either from 21-30 to 22-30 in the evening, or from 3-00 to 4-00 in the morning. And in August, respectively, it will be the period from 20-00 to 21-00 and from 4-30 to 5-30.

The exit of pikeperch can last less than an hour
And this comrade appears on the roll immediately after the gules or, if we are talking about the morning, then on the contrary before him. The output as such lasts no more than an hour, and most often even less, but unlike the sherespere it feeds all night. Therefore, literally in an hour you can again try to outwit the fang. Though not often, but nevertheless there are times when he feeds all night long and we are not limited by the periods of his activity.
Of course, this does not mean that we have to spend the whole night on the river, because work and everything else, as they say, no one canceled. Therefore, most often I just alternate between morning and evening so that fishing brought pleasure and did not turn into a chore. But on vacation, I like to combine all of this case with rafting, then you have to long and hard to study maps and satellite images to stand overnight in the most promising place.
Location
The choice of place depends on the time of year
There is nothing complicated with the choice of place in essence too… As a rule, it is shoals bordering with the pit or directly in and out of it, or stony rolls, again not far from the pit. Closer to the fall it is on pikeperch I begin to work and just steep bends of the river on the side of the washed up bank. It is desirable with the presence of snags on the bottom or clay bumps, which directly and hide his future prey. And here on the stud in early fall can be additionally considered to visit the mouths of small rivers, sand spits and dunes, as it is here accumulates overnight various belle and corsair at times arranges here a formal “beating of babies”. At such times, it does not even matter what you have tied at the end of the cord, as he is ready to “tear” literally everything.
When choosing a place should be guided by the presence of fry
It is quite natural that an outwardly promising place may not work. Therefore, first of all, when choosing between points should be guided by the presence of fry in the place of catching, as it is quite logical that if there is no prey, there will be no predator. It also happens that the formerly working place as if turned off the switch, for the whole night you can not see not only a nibble, but even in general any activity of zherekh or pikeperch. As a rule, after a couple of days, everything returns to normal as if nothing had happened. I don’t know what it is connected with, but nevertheless such situation repeats several times from year to year.
Tackle
There are no restrictions in the choice of tackle
Probably, this will be the shortest part of my story…..
And all because when choosing a certain set I always start only from the weight of the baits I am going to catch. So today it can be Norstream Ultra New 722ULL and Daiwa Aegis 2506, and tomorrow – Norstream Spiker 2 822M and Shimano Biomaster SW 5000PG. The cord I use with the appropriate breaking load, but again it all depends only on your personal preferences and capabilities, as there are no rigid restrictions in this aspect. Lately, most often I have Varivas Avani Sea Bass PE LS8 wound on bark, and Sunline PE Jigger ULT 4braid on ounce.

Any wobbler can work in the right horizon
Again, I won’t bore you too much and try to limit myself to my favorites. In fact, “shoot” can absolutely any wobbler, provided that it hits the horizon and size, and that’s why all the baits listed below are not a panacea for no-biting, but only a general reference point to have something to fall back on. And yes, some lures are perfectly fine on both lists…..

There is nothing more beautiful than sunset and sunrise on your favorite river
As you can see, there is nothing particularly complicated in night fishing. Naturally, I could forget to tell you about some nuances, like the same wiring, and it is a bit slower than daytime when fishing at night in both cases. Or, for example, in the case of pikeperch and in general most often works the usual uniform on the verge of disrupting the game of our wobbler. But the most important thing is your desire to learn to catch, as everything else will come only with experience and then, as they say, the puzzle will add up …
And a wonderful bonus will be picturesque landscapes, as there is nothing more beautiful than sunset and sunrise on your favorite river….
